Buying Used Strollers, Car Seats and High Chairs

Safety 1st High Chair Plus

Not all childrens’ high chairs on the market are designed for use from newborn to toddler, and some are actually only suitable for babies who are sitting independently - so it’s  always nice to find one that caters to really young children as well. That having been said, the Safety 1st High Chair Plus is a relatively small high chair, at around 34 inches, and might not last as long as some of the other brands on the market. So if having your newborn seated in  a highchair at the table with you is not a priority, it may be a better choice to find a slightly larger model.

For a budget friendly high chair that retails for around $90, the Safety 1st High Chair Plus has a pretty impressive list of features.
A frame that folds for easy storage is a great feature in our books, especially if you have limited space, and lockable casters make it easy to maneuver. A five point safety harness, with shoulder straps that are removable for larger children, help contribute to the safety for very small infants, as well as larger babies. A crotch bar that attaches to the snack tray completes a very safe configuration.
Safety 1st certainly gone to great effort to make parent’s lives easier, with a basket for bits and pieces, and even a towel drying bar built into the design, and with dishwasher safe trays, it’s easy to clean.

ASSEMBLY AND SETUP

The assembly of this chair is not terribly difficult, but the instructions can be a little confusing and the seat pad can be difficult to get on and off. Overall though, most people should be able to cope without too much trouble.

ADJUSTIBILITY

A reclining feature adds to the appeal for parents of newborns, and seven height adjustment options do make for a chair that will grow with your baby. However, because the High Chair Plis been designed to accommodate really small infants, it won’t take you from newborn to boisterous toddler, and you will probably need to invest in a larger model later on. That said, it’s refreshing to see a model that does cater to very small infants, and for parents who want something that offers that feature, this is a good starter high chair.

EASE OF CLEANING

The seat pad is machine washable, which should take care of any spills, but getting it on and off can be tricky. All the trays clip off and are dishwasher safe, so keeping them clean isn’t a problem. The frame is coated steel that wipes clean easily. All in all, the Safety 1st High Chair Plus is easy to keep clean, and for minor spills, a quick wipe with a damp cloth should take care of the problem.

LOOKS AND STYLE

4 out of 5 points

When folded out, the High Chair Plus can look a little bulky, taking up quite a lot of floor space - however that does add to stability, so it’s also a feature. The  chair itself has a white coated steel frame, and taupe plastic accents, and the seat pad and other fabric elements are also muted taupe and blue, so they should blend in with your décor without too much hassle.

Overall, the Safety 1st High Chair Plus chair is well made, and looks robust and up to the challenge, with nice thick padding on the seat that keeps baby comfortable.
